Desperately Seeking Zen...

Well that was a Mothers Day I won't forget in a hurry! Fielding calls from my increasingly panic-stricken 18 year old daughter who was stuck in Da Nang, Vietnam with flights being cancelled every minute and the window of opportunity for getting home closing with layover airports closing by the hour.  I found myself in the incongruous position of preaching calm, positive thinking and the benefits of deep breathing to her, whilst in between calls quietly freaking out and trying desperately to follow my own advice in the face of every maternal fibre of my being screaming. 

Thankfully the story has a happy ending for our family - at the 11th hour a ticket to Hong Kong was secured, and as it turned out a seat on the last UK-bound flight from there before Hong Kong airport also closed.  My daughter is now safely installed in all her chaotic wonderfulness at home. But my heart goes out to all the families who have not been so lucky; who still have loved ones stuck elsewhere not knowing how or if they will be able to get home. Easy for me to say in circumstances I know, but try to stay strong, stay safe and think positive.  Rather puts the inconvenience of Social Distancing into perspective.
